Load Frequency Control Assessment of a PSO-PID Controller for a Standalone Multi-Source Power System

The performance of load frequency control (LFC) for isolated multiple sources electric power-generating units with a proportional integral derivative (PID) controller is presented. A thermal, hydro, and gas unit are integrated into the studied system. PID proposed as subordinate to stabilize system when there sudden demand on power particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm used obtain optimal gain values controller. Various cost functions, mainly time absolute error (ITAE), (IAE), squared (ISE), (ITSE) were optimize parameters. Furthermore, enhancement PSO technique proven by comparison conventional, differential evolution (DE) algorithm- genetic (GA)-based controllers same results show PSO-PID delivers faster settled response percentage improvement over conventional method 79%, GA 55%, DE 24% in an emergency
